Thanks to the totally fucking awesome Matt Fraction and Comic Book Resources for this tidbit.

So apparently at a certain point in his career, Joe Shuster, best known for being one half of the team that created Superman, was hard-up enough for money that he ended up doing fetishistic/”erotic” art for illegal magazines (using that word loosely) using the likenesses of his characters, more or less.

Pretty kinky, eh?  Makes you look at your Golden Age comics in a slightly different light.  There’s a book out about it now, called Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster.

“But Costa,” you’ll breathlessly scream as I unveil this information, “that’s impossible!  Superman was making money for DC hand over fucking fist!”  That’s right, DC.  Not Shuster and Jerry Siegel.

Pretty sweetness.
