Random Record Review – Lipona, “Pigeonholed” EP

Pigeonholed EP

free on the internet (2009)

I could go on about how this free digital EP from Lipona is a segment of storytelling about the things that plague a punk band that’s trying to be different and interesting, fighting against the tide of mainstream reconceptions that even seeps into the independent music industry…but I won’t.  Because beyond that, it’s a really, really, REALLY good effort from a band that grows on me more and more every time I listen to them.  Smart, fast,  and melodic, this has it all.  And while there are moments in here that could have definitely spun off into predictable territory (not that that’s really a bad thing), Lipona still strove to make it interesting to them instead, which is what I respect the most.
