Random Record Review – Post Harbor, “They Can’t Hurt You…”

Post Harbor

They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them

Burning Building Recordings (2010)

I don’t really know how to describe Post Harbor.  I suppose the best way would be to say “epic”, but even that’s not quite right.  “Teetering on the joined corners of ambient rock, experimental/electronica music, and post-hardcore”?  Nah, not that either.

They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them is soft, ambient, and melodic, but with that definite edge of hidden “I used to listen to a lot of hardcore and metal” power that you hear in bands like the recently-broken up These Arms Are Snakes or Sparta.  At the same time though, the band is trying to push limits with synths, beats, off-time, and stretches of silence that doesn’t suck.

If you’re looking for something a little different and background/ambient/roadtrip soundtrack oriented, I’d give this a listen.  I’ll probably be giving this repeat listens in the future myself.
