Random Record Review – Castevet, “The Echo & The Light” EP

Castevet

The Echo & The Light EP

self-released (2010)

I really dig Castevet.  Like they’re probably one of my new favorite bands these days, with crisp and precise musicianship that still maintains this incredibly energetic post-hardcore energy that I found in bands like Small Brown Bike, Fugazi, and Jawbox.

It’s ambient and understated, haunting and melodic but at the same time rip-roaring, energetic, and heartfelt.  Ambition that normally gets a band in over their heads works really well here as they continue making solid and thoroughly enjoyable post-hardcore influenced music.  I don’t really have much else to say other than repeating “I REALLY LIKE THIS ALBUM” over and over again, which I’m figuring is a little annoying after a while.

I’m so goddamn stoked that a band like Castevet is out there doing their thing, and cannot wait to hear even more great things from them.
