Topshelf Records (2009)
This is super-screamo. Like, SUPER-DUPER screamo.
But that’s not a bad thing. I mean, you gotta feel bad for a genre that got hijacked as the “name” for a brand of music that’s basically incoherent yelling about petty cry-in-my-diary topics on TV to kids who wouldn’t know real independent music if it stabbed them in the eyes.
Pianos Become The Teeth are more in the vein of bands like Worn In Red, Botch, and These Arms Are Snakes, frantic and almost chaotic post-hardcore punk with hidden melodies that shouts rage at you, real coherent rage that isn’t just incessant fucking whining.
I’m really picky about stuff like this but I sorta dig, I’d definitely give this more listens in the future. I don’t know if I could constantly do a whole album of this, which I think is a sub-genre probably best suited for 7-inches, but hey, different strokes for different folks.
