Random Record Review – Grown Ups, “More Songs”

Grown Ups

More Songs

Big Scary Monsters (2010)

Post-hardcore-tinged indie.  Or maybe it’s more like indie-tinged post-hardcore?  Whatever.  It doesn’t suck, which is what’s important.  Despite an almost spindly sound, there’s definitely a backbone of basement shows and singalongs in Grown UpsMore Songs, which sets this band above a lot of others.  I like it when a hidden strength like that is there in bands, focused into precision that manages to not fall into ridiculous guitar prog-noodling, melody and passion.  It’s what I love about Fugazi, who channel their own hardcore backgrounds with their various musical tastes to create something unique.

Grown Ups are definitely going for the same thing here, and I like it.  You should to, if you know what’s good for you.
