PEANUTS has a new home

So apparently, Universal UClick is the new home of the classic comic strip Peanuts.  United Media used to syndicate the comic in papers and online for a long time, but a recent move by Peanuts Worldwide LLC (formed by Charles Schultz’s family and Iconix Brand Group) managed to get the rights.

Someone at Universal Media is punching themselves in the head over this because despite being in reruns for years, the Peanuts franchise is a gold mine in terms of syndication rights and merchandise.

Despite the fact that I don’t actually read Peanuts, even I know that this is a big deal in the cartooning world.  It’s almost like DC Comics loosing the rights to Batman, and Marvel Comics getting them.
