Random Record Review – Rapid Cities/m0ck, “Split 7′”

Rapid Cities/m0ck

Split 7″

Love/Hate Records (2010)

Rapid Cities, to me, are always a great band to listen to when you’re in the mood for spastic art-stabby post-hardcore, while mOck remind me a lot of Hot Water Music or early Small Brown Bike musically, but with vocals more in the vein of Charlie Brown Gets A Valentine.  It’s a little monotonous, but not too bad.

I will say that RC are my favorite on this split, but only because mOck seem to have confused “playing the same riff over and over with a slight breakdown in the middle” as being technical.  There’s definitely potential there though that I can hear and am looking forward to hearing more of, which is what helps this release go from a decent split featuring a band I like to a solid split featuring two great bands, and even if you’ve never heard either of these bands, it’s a great intro as well.
